DP Autumn Durald + Courtney Hoffman on the set of The Good Time Girls

Courtney Hoffman built a career as a Costume Designer on films like Baby Driver, The Hateful Eight, and Captain Fantastic before expanding her storytelling as a writer and director. She made her directorial debut with the Western short The Good Time Girls, starring Laura Dern, and her passion for female-led genre and action continues with The Sisters of Scott County, a 1970s trucker movie starring Kaitlyn Dever. Most recently, she directed the season finale of American Horror Stories: Thing Under the Bed for FX.

In commercials, she directed the first ever WhatsApp global campaign and has worked with many domestic and international brands to tell elevated stories with visual flourish and iconic touches. She has collaborated with grammy nominee Margo Price on two New York Time's picked music videos.

As a writer, she’s developed and sold original stories to HBO Max, Paramount, Sony, Peacock, FX, and Freeform, including four original series and two features. Her most recent television projects include Kentucky Blaze—a mother-daughter stoner comedy created with Miley and Tish Cyrus—and Drama Majors, a mental health mystery inspired by her NYU Tisch classmates.

Courtney learned the craft by studying the greats— Quentin Tarantino, Terrence Malick, Steven Soderbergh, Tim Burton, Edgar Wright, Alma Har’el, Gia Coppola, Matt Ross, and Susanna Fogel— each leaving a fingerprint on her understanding of story, tone, and visual rhythm. With their support and faith in her vision, she’s devoted to building a body of work that honors the storytellers who shaped her— and inspires those who come next.
